why nix-tix?

• nix-tix has been developed to remove the whole tick from its target food-source. This is a critical point of differentiation to the other tick removal products available today, including keys and forceps.

• Looking closer at the anatomy of a tick's mouth parts - you can see how the tick attaches itself and  secures itself for a long feeing cycle.

• Understanding this, it becomes clear why it is so easy to tear off the tick's body and leave mouth parts behind with any device that tries to  pull out a firmly anchored and embedded tick.

• nix-tix removes the entire tick along with a small piece of skin, ensuring no mouth parts are left behind.

hypostome

• The tick uses three mouthparts to cut its way into the skin. In the center is a hollow sword like part (hypostome). The backward angle of the barbs on this and at the base of the face make entry easier while preventing it from being pulled out.

• At the end of the hypostome are two telescoping rods with hooked teeth - these are small and sharp enough to enter the surface of the skin with little force. The tick gradually pushes the tip deeper into the surface - ratcheting down with each telescoping motion deeper into the skin until its head is completely buried below the surface. Once deep enough the tick releases a cement like substance to help hold itself in place. The cement looks like skin.

• When a tick bites, it is a process that takes days, a blood meal can take between 30 to 72 hours to be completed. The longer the tick is anchored and feeding, the higher the risk of transmitting micro-organisms such as Borrelia burgdorferi (causative pathogen for Lyme disease).

• To successfully remove the whole tick it is important to remove the tick, the cement and a small part of the skin where the tick is embedded. Any agitation to the tick could trigger it to release toxins & micro-organisms causing disease. Most tick removers fail to get the entire tick once it has burrowed into the skin - instead they tend to tear the tick apart – leaving the buried head inside the host.

• We have revolutionized tick removal by creating a device that removes a small amount of skin around the embedded tick

•
does not require twisting or
pulling the tick!

•
nix-tix is made from stainless steel
•
